Veterans Day is an annual American holiday honoring military veterans. Both a federal holiday and a state holiday in all states, it is usually observed on November 11. However, if it occurs on a Sunday then the following Monday is designated for holiday leave, and if it occurs Saturday then either Saturday or Friday may be so designated. It is also celebrated as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, falling on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.)

Ask Reannen

Drama, is it becoming of you?

"He said, she said but I didn't say that." Being high school students, we are all subject to drama. Some are more fortunate than others and avoid drama but some on the other hand just cannot help themselves. They find themselves indulged in every day drama and they feed off of it. At this point, you might as well face it, your addicted to drama and the adrenaline rush that it gives you. The truth is drama can happen to anyone, not just the ones who look for it and feed off of it. Drama can unravel when you have had a stressful day or a bad break-up. Drama more often than most comes from confiding in someone that you shouldn't have and that someone then turns your words around and creates conflict. Avoiding drama can be simple; learn who to trust and earn to say the right things at the right time instead of blurting out the wrong things at the worst times.

Should we be allowed to use explicit words or "cuss" in school?

Freedom of Speech, as it is written in the First Amendment of the Constitution, is the freedom to speak without censorship and limitation. That's not saying you have the freedom to degrade people and make them feel bad with such explicit words. Freedom of Speech is giving you the opportunity to voice an opinion, so why slaughter that right by thinking you have the freedom to cuss someone out. This is a school, a place of learning, no one needs to learn a new cuss word. Most kids already know them well enough. Should we be allowed to cuss in school? Should we be allowed to cuss in church? Should we be allowed to cuss our parents out? It is a common courtesy that some cannot handle but should definitely be learned. Find other words to help you express yourself.

Freshman Parent Night Out Thursday, November 5, 2009

The Freshman Academy is hosting a “Parent Night Out: Parents Return To School” on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. It is the desire of the Edisto High School and the Freshman Academy to create an environment that is conducive to the success of the students. Our hope is that parents will be inspired to visit the school to see how their children, our Freshman students, are progressing both academically and socially. We are expecting a full house, parents, and you are the SPECIAL GUEST OF THE EVENING! These are all our children and “It Takes A Village” to ensure their success. We look forward to seeing you. Oh, by the way, we have planned a delicious soup dinner and great door prizes for you!
