The History of Halloween
Much of Halloween history was not written down for centuries. The most plausible theory is that Halloween originated in the British Isles out the Pagan Celtic celebration of Samhain. It goes back as far as 5 B.C. when it was believed that spirits rose from the dead and mingled with the living on this day. The Celts left food at their doors to encourage good spirits and wore masks to scare off the bad ones. Many centuries later, the Roman Catholic Church, attempted to do away with Pagan holidays. This attempt to detract attention from the Pagan celebration of Samhain did not work. The celebrations on the eve of All Saint’s Day came to America in the 1840’s where it continued to flourish.

Ask Reannen
First impressions. Are you judging a book by its cover?
Ladies. So there is this girl, her hair is a mess and her clothes are hideous. Your reaction is? Guys. A dude’s shoes are out- dated and he has on a “little shirt.” Your reaction is? It is real easy to point fingers and laugh at people who do not look like us. Judging someone by his/her appearance may be the first thing on someone’s mind, but is it what we should do? It takes time to get to know someone’s true side, and in the end it could be very worth it. The same girl with the messed up hair, could be the only one willing to help you out in your Calculus class. The dude with the busted sneakers could have a hidden talent and blow your mind. So, next time before you “judge a book by its cover,” you should think twice and consider getting to know that person before you pass judgment. Besides, that same person could be judging you. Make a difference, befriend someone new!

Timbaland’s “Beaterator”
Music Star Timbaland has worked together with Rockstar Games (publisher of the immensely popular Grand Theft auto franchise) to develop a game of his own. The result is called “Beaterator”, for the PlayStation Portable system. Beaterator is not really a game so much as it is a software program that turns your PSP into a music-making machine. The game can be a bit tough to learn, but once you get the hang of it, you can get a feel for making your own music. Beaterator includes the ability to make your own beats and tracks from scratch or by mixing pre-set loops included on the UMD. Not only that, but you can even export your tracks as a WAV file that, given the proper software no your own computer , can be burned onto a disc for your own mix CD of custom tracks. Beaterator is not by any means perfect, but it is a valiant effort on part of Rockstar and Timbaland to make a game for aspiring music producers and DJs. If you want to learn the basics of mixing and making beats, give Beaterator a try.
